Riyan Parag was born in a sporting family. His mother, Mithoo Barooah is national record holder swimmer and his father is former Assam Ranji cricket player. His father was a valuable Ranji player for Assam, but he could not make it to the senior cricket national side. Now Riyan is fulfilling his dream by following the footsteps of his Dad.

According to his mother Ryan is very good student in studies too. He scored 82% with letter marks in Hindi, English and Science in the Class X board exams last year from South Point School, Guwahati, and has taken up humanities in plus two. Riyan does not carry his surname, instead he carries his father’s first name as his last name. This is because, Riyan’s father was a talented cricketer but due to unfavorable circumstances he could not make it to team India.

Riyan’s mother wanted Riyan to carry his father’s name to the top-level. Riyan’s cricket journey started at the age of 12 when he broke into Assam Under-16 team. At the age of 13, he broke into Assam Under 19 team. Riyan was a fat guy and he had to go through Ketogenic diet to shed his fat. He was very foodie and liked to eat. He was on the diet for one and half year and he sacrificed a taste to rise through ranks. Now he is a very conscious eater and keeps count of his calorie consumption.

Ryan attracted attention in the Cooch Behar Trophy in 2016-17. Riyan who was 14 years old then, finished the series with third highest run getter and also scored one double century.

Six months after he was selected for India’s Under-19 tour of England. Although he was only picked for the Youth Test Squad of Tour, but it was enough for him to impress the selectors. He scored scores of 68 and 50 in the first test.

After that he played Asia cup in which he had scores of 25 and 7. In the challenger trophy following the Asia cup he scored 207 runs in the four innings. This was good enough for the selectors to grant him a place in the India’s Under-19 squad for the 2018 World Cup.

Riyan is now also a first-class cricketer as he just made his first-class debut for Assam against Hyderabad in November 2017. He picked two wickets on his debut and had scores of 9 and 3.
