Travis Head was named Captain of the Redbacks in February 2015. He became youngest captain of all time at the age of 21.

Travis Head showed great leadership skills when under his captainship South Australia reached final of the Sheffield Shield for the first time in 20 years.
The Southpaw made his debut against Indian in T20I series. His debut was forgettable, and he was dropped for the second match, but he came back strongly in the third match of the series in Sydney to score 26 runs of the 19 Balls. In both the matches he was dismissed by Ravindra Jadeja.

In 2012 in the Under-19 World Cup India Beat Australia in the Finals on their home soil. Australia reached finals, but Travis Head had a forgettable tournament as he only scored 172 runs in 6 Matches.

Travis Head was picked up by Delhi Daredevils in 2015 IPL but didn’t get to play any game. Ahead of the 2016 IPL auction, there was a bit of confusion on whether they had released him. Later, that confusion was cleared, and he took part in 2016 IPL auction and he was contracted by Royal Challengers Bangalore for Rs. 50 Lakhs.

Travis Head had very good stint in the Big Bash league after he smashed 299 runs at an average of 42.21 at a wonderful strike rate of 154.92 playing for the Adelaide Strikers.
